The Ho Center for Buddhist Studies at Stanford (HCBSS) has helped to establish the university as a leading center for the study of Buddhism, but much remains to be done to develop Stanford’s resources to their full potential.
The HCBSS actively seeks community and foundation contributions to this development. If you or your organization would like to support Buddhist Studies at Stanford and the academic and public programs of the HCBSS, please consider making a gift.
Contributions to the HCBSS may take the form of one-time expendable gifts, annual pledges, or endowments. Endowment gifts provide naming opportunities for specific programs. Matching funds may be available for certain types of endowment gifts through the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
Gift Targets
Contributions to the HCBSS may range from general support for Buddhist Studies at Stanford to sponsorship of particular activities and programs. The HCBSS is currently seeking support in particular for the following targets.
Professorships
An endowed professorship is a high academic honor bestowed upon distinguished scholars. Endowed professorships in Buddhist Studies expand the university's senior faculty and course offerings in the field and ensure that Buddhism is always taught at Stanford. Gifts for a professorship provide the opportunity to name the endowed chair.
Doctoral Fellowships
Graduate students represent the next generation of scholars and will advance research and train future students in Buddhist Studies. Endowed doctoral fellowships enable the university to attract the most promising students to our Buddhist Studies program and ensure that funding will always be available for the advanced study of Buddhism at Stanford. Endowment gifts provide a naming opportunity and may qualify for matching funds from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
Dissertation Fellowships
Dissertation fellowships provide support for doctoral students in the final year of the program, during which they finish writing and defend the thesis. Endowed dissertation fellowships free doctoral students from the need for other employment, thus ensuring that they can devote their full time to their studies.
Postdoctoral Fellowships
Postdoctoral fellowship appointments enable young scholars to pursue one or more years of research and teaching before embarking on a professorial career. Endowed postdoctoral fellowships enable the university to support new scholarship while expanding its curriculum in Buddhist Studies and enlivening its community of scholars.

Ways to Make a Gift
Online:
Stanford's Office of Development provides an online form for credit card gifts to the university. To designate the HCBSS as the recipient, choose "School of Humanities and Sciences," then "Dept or Program," and specify "The Ho Center for Buddhist Studies" under Special Instructions.
Mail:
Check payable to "Stanford University." Include a letter of intent designating the gift for the "The Ho Center for Buddhist Studies" and indicating any desired target of the gift.
